Executive Summary

Global warming is changing our climate, resulting in longer and more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and rising sea levels — affecting daily life through health concerns, destructive weather, and food security. Since the 1970s, scientists have pushed for environmental reforms, and by the 2000s climate change had moved from the scientific community into the realm of politics, media, and corporate social responsibility. With all this attention, we wanted to understand whether we are actually making progress in addressing this pressing environmental concern.

To analyze our progress, we used data from the Global Surface Summary of the Day, retrieved from the Amazon Open Data Registry, processing data from 2000-2015 to check for improvements — or lack thereof — in global temperature, rainfall, drought, and storm patterns.
